Automated scene breakdown from script's PDF
- Import script in PDF with a simple drag-n-drop.
- V-Slate will extract the text and detect where each scene begins and end.
- Writes scenes with corresponding scene text, page start, page end, page count.
- Generates difference report between 2 versions of the script, highlighting changes for easy review.
<span data-metadata=""><span data-buffer="">Automated shot renaming when scenes change in a new version of the script
- Automatically compares the shot description to the scene text and renames the shot if necessary (if the description from shot 101_025_010 moves from scene 25 to 26 it would rename it as 101_026_010 and link it to the new scene)
Quick way for creating shots, internal budget passes
- Use Tasks to calculate shot costs, auto-populate VFX description, vendor and rebate if you so desire.
- Able to handle multiple currencies for different vendors.
- Converts all costs to base currency, using configurable exchange rates.
- Allows for multiple vendors to be assigned to one shot, keeps track of each vendor’s cost (both local as base currency) to ensure proper invoicing and payments.
Shot groups allow you to maintain a history of "Snapshots" of your show
- Each shot group has independent shots, assets, bids, etc.
- Duplicate a shot group and rename it to ensure new changes only affect the new shot group.
- Previous ones remain untouched, as a “log” of where the project was at any moment in time.

Auto-generate a digital version of your One Liner
- Drag-n-drop your PDF, V-Slate extracts the text, recognizes the different camera setups shooting days and creates a digital version of your One Liner.
- Have all strips from all units and blocks in one place. Search with ease.
- Identify and organize your week, double-ups and 2nd units to ensure proper crew assignment.
- Links to corresponding scenes and shots, highlights setups that are tagged as VEX.
- Enter shoot report additionals, new and omitted shots with corresponding cost changes.
- Generate a weekly shoot report for production.
- Generate shoot plan in PDF to share with other heads of department to ensure they have the correct information in advance. VFX Supervisor can add images, notes for each setup using the One Liner.
Import DIT, camera and data-wrangler reports
- Creates a takes table combining all your daily reports.
- Links to the scenes table so you can easily see how many takes there are, when they were shot, lens information, shoot day, etc…
- Utilizes this data to generate Count Sheets during Post.
- If you’re using a variation of the VES filemaker On-Set database, V-Slate will automatically import all data including pictures.
Owed elements list
- Keep track of all owed elements to be shot at a future date.
Post
Process Cuts & Pulls
- Imports and parses Cut EDLs, creating the events, identifies Shot Ids and VFX description, creates shots in Shotgrid with VFX description, creates and uploads an editorial reference QT of the shot from a QT reference of the episode or feature and links it to the corresponding shot.
- Creates Cut and Cut Items automatically in Shotgrid for in-context reviews.
- Creates difference report when comparing to a previous Cut EDL (New and omitted shots, changes in frame ranges, changes in source clip files, etc).
- Imports and parses Pull EDLs, creating the events, identifies element Ids, creates and uploads an element QT reference of each element being pulled to Shotgrid from a QT stringout of the pull, links the version to its corresponding shot.
- Automatically creates Count Sheets for every shot in the Pull and uploads them as a compressed zip file to a playlist in Shotgrid, to then be turned over to the vendor.
Batch download files from any Playlist in Shotgrid
- Looks at all versions from one or many playlists, then downloads the original (source) files to your local drive.
- Give vendors limited access to this layout, only playlist assigned to them will be visible, available for download.
- Easy way to turnover any additional files to vendors (HDRIs, images, QT references, PDFs, etc)
Process Pulls
- Imports and parses Pull EDLs, creating the events, identifies element Ids, creates and uploads an element QT reference of each element being pulled to Shotgrid from a QT stringout of the pull, links the version to its corresponding shot.
- Automatically creates Count Sheets for every shot in the Pull and uploads them as a compressed zip file to a playlist in Shotgrid, to then be turned over to the vendor.
Drop-Ins
- Generates report of new versions to be dropped-in for VFX Editor based on the status of a version.
- Ensures Lab confirmation EDL contains all approved versions, if not, highlights those that are missing after cross-referencing the VFX Editor’s EDL and provides package submission information from the vendor to the Lab to track down.
Administrative
POs and invoicing
- Link shots or assets to POs, if shots are shared, each vendor’s cost line item is handled separately.
- Allows for easy tracking of pending shots or assets to be linked to a PO.
- Separately link invoices to POs to make sure all PO balances are being invoiced and paid.
- Export invoice or PO reports to excel for reconciliation.
Reporting
- Dashboard updates in real-time to show summaries of budget vs actuals per episode, per vendor, overhead summary, per tag.
- Exports to excel in same format, including a separate tab for each report, making it easy to modify or copy the data to a different format.
- Most modules have an export to excel option for external data processing
